Automatic Flight Flashcards
Which roll modes are affected by the Bank Angle Select Knob
And when is it limited
- knob sleeve provides bank limits for HDG, HDG SEL, and VOR
- Bank angle limiting is inhibited during LOC CAP and FMS NAV modes
During FMS NAV mode ops the bank is limited to?
15* if NAV is engaged, slats extended, airspeed less than an AFMC computed minimum speed
When do the auto throttles engage in CLMP mode
On ground
In flight
- On the ground for more than 20 sec with auto throttles in EPR mode and airspeed greater than 60 kias
- If IAS or MACH mode is selected while in flight with the auto throttles engaged in VERT SPD, ALT HOLD, SPD SEL, or MACH SEL modes(any of the pitch modes)
What moves with movement of the autothrottles in IAS/MACH modes
Pitch
How are IAS or MACH modes engaged
PFD indications
- Pushing the IAS/MACH button
- PFD displays FD command to maintain selected Mach or IAS and AP, if engaged, will adjust pitch attitude to maintain selected speed
What is the function of the IAS MACH Pitch Mode Select Button
Symbols used
- Selects existing IAS (below27,000 feet)
or MACH (above 27000’ and above .5 Mach)
Or DFGS Pitch mode - Using pitch to control speed is indicated by an “S” (airspeed) or “M” (Mach) symbol and the desired airspeed or Mach respectively
What are the indications when the autothrottles are disconnected
THROTTLE Warning light (red) flashes when the autothrottle is disengaged.
Pushing autothrottle disconnect button on either throttle or re-selecting AUTO THROT switch to AUTO THROT position extinguishes light
In VERT SPD and ALT HLD modes, airspeed is controlled by __________ which are programmed by_____________
Auto throttles
By the SPD/MACH Select knob
The SPD SEL or MACH SEL mode can be engaged during……
- Any phase of flight except when TO, GA, TO FLX is selected on the TRP or retard mode is engaged
With autothrottles in SPD SEL or MACH SEL mode the autothrottle seeks and maintains…
Reference Speed/Mach selected In the SPD/MACH window except when the Alpha speed reference is a higher value
Describe the 4 FMA windows
The 4 FMA windows are from left to right
- FMA thrust window (green) - displays existing autothrottle mode
- FMA Arm Windiw (Amber) - displays armed mode for roll or pitch
- FMA Roll Window (green) - displays existing roll mode
- FMA Pitch Window (green) - displays existing Pitch mode
What’s the meaning of ALFA SPD annunciation in the throttle window of the FMA
- Throttles are controlled to seek and maintain the Alpha speed reference indicated by the Fast/Slow display on the PFD which is a safe margin above stall speed
- Engaged automatically when autothrottles are in SPD SEL or MACH SEL mode and the selected SPD/MACH value is less than the safe minimum airspeed for the existing slat/flap config
What are the conditions and indications when the autopilot is disconnected
The AP is disengaged and the red AP warning light on the FMA flashes in the following conditions
- AP switch is off
- AP malfunction detected
- DFGC switch is moved from selected pos
- AUTOPILOT REL button on either control wheel is pushed
- Primary horiz stab trim is manually operated
- Stick pusher
- Loss of power will disengage but the warning light won’t illuminate and vocal warning will not sound
The flashing AP light is accompanied by
- Aural and vocal warnings in all AP disengagements
What does pushing the HDG Select knob do
Pushed to first detent only fast rate of heading adjustment can be made
