Q

What’s the meaning of ALFA SPD annunciation in the throttle window of the FMA

A
  1. Throttles are controlled to seek and maintain the Alpha speed reference indicated by the Fast/Slow display on the PFD which is a safe margin above stall speed
  2. Engaged automatically when autothrottles are in SPD SEL or MACH SEL mode and the selected SPD/MACH value is less than the safe minimum airspeed for the existing slat/flap config

Q

What are the conditions and indications when the autopilot is disconnected

A

The AP is disengaged and the red AP warning light on the FMA flashes in the following conditions

  1. AP switch is off
  2. AP malfunction detected
  3. DFGC switch is moved from selected pos
  4. AUTOPILOT REL button on either control wheel is pushed
  5. Primary horiz stab trim is manually operated
  6. Stick pusher

16
Q

What is the FMA annunciation FMS SPD function and when is it displayed

A
  1. FMD SPD - (FMS VNAV mode engaged). Throttles being controlled by FMS to maintain speed.
17
Q

What’s the function of the FMA annunciation FMS EPR and when is it displayed

A

FMS EPR - ( FMS VNAV mode engaged) throttles being controlled by FMS to maintain EPR

18
Q

When can the SPD SEL mode be engaged

A

The SPD SEL or MACH SEL mode can be engaged during any phase of flight except when TO, GA, or TO FLX is selected on the TRP or retard mode is engaged

19
Q

What happens when the HDG Select knob is fully pushed in

A

Pushed to Full Detent - engaged heading hold mode. With this mode engaged, the AP/FD either maintains the existing heading or, if the bank angle is more than 3 degrees, rolls the airplane level and maintains that heading

20
Q

What will adjusting vertical speed during altitude capture do

A

In ALT CAP, ALT HLD, or VNAV modes, vertical speed rate adjustments after altitude capture will disengage the altitude capture mode and pitch control will revert to the vertical speed mode

21
Q

When will the autopilot/flight director revert to vertical speed mode when engaged in the SPD SEL mode

A

When the autothrottle is engaged in SPD SEL or MACH SEL mode after the autopilot/FD was engaged in IAS or Mach mode, the AP/FD will revert to the vertical speed mode at the existing vertical speed and the VERT SPD annunciation will flash for 5 seconds on the FMA

22
Q

When will the Pitch Profile Readout/Window on the FGCP display/capture the existing vertical speed?

A

When the SPD SEL is pressed

23
Q

What is CLMP and when it is displayed

A
  1. CLMP- (Controls Locked Manual Power) ATS in CLMP mode. Power is removed from ATS servo(throttles remain stationary
  2. In flight - results from selecting IAS/MACH on the FGCP
  3. On ground - airplane is on the ground for more than 20 seconds with autothrottles in EPR mode and airspeed greater than 60 KIAS
24
Q

Explain how AUTOLAND mode of the auto flight system may be disarmed after Autoland has been armed and both the localizer and glideslope are in the track mode

A

Once it has been armed and both the LOC and GS are in track mode
(LND, LOC/TRK,GS/TRK), Autoland may be disengaged by
1. Disengage the autopilot
2. TOGA buttons
3. Detune the ILS frequency

25
Q

Explain the flight director commands given when TOGA is selected during take off and go around(Pitch and roll)

A

Pitch commands:
1. T/O - command bar on the PFD commands a pitch attitude to maintain V2+10 KIAS with 2 engines
2. In the event of an engine failure pitch commands for one engine operation as follows
A. If the airspeed is at or below V2. Pitch commanded to hold V2
B. If airspeed is between V2 and V2+10. Keep existing airspeed
C. If greater than V2+10. It will pitch for V2+10

  1. During go around mode it’s commanded to maintain DFGC computed go-around speed(airspeed at TOGA switch activation but not less than 1.3 Vs + 5 or greater than 1.3 Vs + 25 in the landing configuration
  2. Roll commands
    A. During take off: after lift off road command bar will command wings level to maintain heading
    B. During go around: existing magnetic heading maintain and roll command bar commands wing level
26
Q

Test prep

You are climbing in the IAS/MACH mode with autothrottles and autopilot ON. You select a slower speed in the pitch window using the pitch wheel. What will the aircraft do?

A

The aircraft will adjust pitch to maintain the new speed

27
Q

Which FMA pitch modes will the autothrottles maintain the selected speed in the SPD/MACH

A

ALT HLD

VERT SPD

28
Q

Test prep

What is the result when the HDG Select knob is pushed all the way in

A

Heading hold

29
Q

You are climbing in the IAS mode and the SPD SEL button is pressed. What would you expect to see in the pitch window of the FMA

A

VERT SPD

30
Q

What’s the function of the Mach trim compensator switch

A

With the switchbin NORM it positions the FIrst Officers control column aft at speeds greater than .80 Mach

31
Q

After liftoff with TAK OFF In the FMA, the flight director will command ________for two engine operation

A

Wings level. Heading and pitch for V2 +10
