Warning Systems Flashcards
What is monitored by the Proximity Switch Electronic Unit (PSEU)?
- Takeoff configuration warnings
- Air/ground sensing
- Landing configuration warnings
- Landing gear
What is indicated by the PSEU Light?
- Fault detected in PSEU
* Overwing exit flight lock failed to disengage when commanded
When will the PSEU light illuminate for a simple fault in the PSEU?
3AA-3DL Only in M/C Recall (resetting the M/C system will extinguish the light)
3DM> Only after landing (setting Parking Brake or shutting down both engines will extinguish the light)
When is the PSEU Light inhibited?
From thrust lever advancement during takeoff until 30 seconds after touchdown
When are the overwing exit flight locks commanded to unlock?
- 2 or more Entry/Service doors open, or
- 2 engines shutdown, or
- Either thrust lever retarded on the ground, or
- DC power lost
Describe altitude alerts approaching selected altitude:
• 900’ prior:
‣ Momentary tone
‣ White box around selected altitude display
‣ White box around current altitude display becomes bold
• 200’ prior (300’ on some airplanes):
‣ White box around selected altitude display disappears
‣ White box around current altitude display returns to normal
Describe altitude alerts when deviating from selected altitude:
• 200’ off (300’ on some airplanes):
‣ Momentary tone
‣ White box around current altitude display turns amber and begins to flash
• Amber flashing continues until:
‣ Altitude deviation becomes less than 200’ (300’ on some airplanes)
‣ Altitude deviation becomes more than 900’
‣ New altitude selected on MCP
When is altitude alert inhibited?
TE Flaps 25° or greater, or GS captured
When are TCAS alerts issued?
- TA 40 seconds from point of closest approach
* RA 25 seconds from point of closest approach
What is indicated by the following terrain displays and Look Ahead Terrain Alerts - Dotted Green:
Terrain 2000’ – 500’ below (250’ below if gear down)
What is indicated by the following terrain displays and Look Ahead Terrain Alerts - Dotted Amber:
Terrain 500’ below (250’ below if gear down) – 2000’ above
What is indicated by the following terrain displays and Look Ahead Terrain Alerts - Dotted Red:
Terrain more than 2000’ above
What is indicated by the following terrain displays and Look Ahead Terrain Alerts - Dotted Magenta:
Terrain data unavailable
What is indicated by the following terrain displays and Look Ahead Terrain Alerts - Solid Amber:
ND TERRAIN
“CAUTION TERRAIN”
(40 – 60 seconds from impact)
What is indicated by the following terrain displays and Look Ahead Terrain Alerts - Solid Red:
ND TERRAIN, PFD PULL UP
“TERRAIN TERRAIN PULL UP”
(20 – 30 seconds from impact)

“GO AROUND WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
(Windshear directly ahead, within 1.5nm)
When does the weather radar automatically begin scanning for windshear?
- Thrust levers advanced for takeoff, or
- In flight below 2300’ RA
(Predictive windshear alerts issued only below 1200’ RA)
Are predictive windshear alerts issued immediately once automatic scanning begins?
No, alerts are available approximately 12 seconds after scanning begins. To enable predictive windshear alerts prior to takeoff, push the WXR Switch on the EFIS Control Panel.
When is a go-around required for windshear?
When ATC issues a “Microburst Alert” or red WINDSHEAR is displayed in cockpit
(Not required for ATC-issued “Windshear Advisories” or “Microburst Advisories”, or when amber WINDSHEAR displayed in cockpit)
May takeoff be initiated when ATC has issued a runway specific “Microburst Alert”?
No
