Warning System Flashcards
Where are the Master Warning & Caution Lights installed?
Glareshield
What are the 4 EICAS Message Priority Levels?
WARNING - RED
CAUTION - AMBER
ADVISORY - CYAN
STATUS - WHITE
What is the definition of a CAUTION?
Indicates an abnormal operational or aircraft system condition requiring immediate crew awareness and should require a subsequent corrective or compensatory action
How many messages can be displayed on the EICAS?
15
How are EICAS messages presented
In chronological order according to category
How long will an advisory flash in inverse video?
5 seconds
Where can the number of overflow messages be seen?
Status Line
What is a ROOT EICAS Message?
Where a single failure has triggered more than 1 EICAS (these are preceded by a chevron)
What are K codes and how many are there?
Inhibition of some messages during critical phases of flight
6 K Codes
What are the Aural Warning Priority Levels?
Emergency - LVL 3
Abnormal - LVL 2
Advisory - LVL 1
Info - LVL 0
What are the intervals between a Master Warning annunciation?
3 seconds
What are the intervals between a Master Caution annunciation?
5 seconds
When is the wind shear detection and escape guidance system activated?
Between 10ft and 1500ft RAD ALT during TO, GA and Approach Phases of Flight
What is displayed on the PFD when windshear is detected?
WSHR
How many Windshear Sensitivity Levels are there?
2
Windshear Caution
Windshear Warning
When will windshear not be detected?
If EGPWS or RAD ALT unavailable
What is a Windshear CAUTION and how is it annunciated?
Detection of increasing headwind and updrafts
AMBER WSHR on PFD
CAUTION WINDSHEAR Voice Message
What is a Windshear WARNING?
Detection of decreasing headwind (or increasing tailwind) and down drafts
RED WSHR on PFD
WINDSHEAR WINDSHEAR WINDSHEAR Voice Message
How do you know that Windshear Escape Guidance has been activated?
GREEN WSHR on the FMA
How is Windshear Escape Guidance provided?
Via the Flight directors
How can Windshear Escape Guidance be activated?
Manually - By pressing TO/GA button when Windshear caution or warning is detected
Automatically - when a windshear WARNING is detected and either the thrust lever is set to TO/GA OR the Flight Director Mode is in TO or GA
What happens to the autopilot when escaping windshear?
Automatically disconnects
What happens to the Autothrottle when escaping windshear?
Autothrottle positions the thrust levers to the TO/GA position
If not engaged, can the pilot engage Autothrottle during windshear escape guidance?
Yes
What happens to the TRS when escaping windshear?
FADEC cancels any Flex/Derated Thrust, and the thrust will be set to GA-RSV regardless of the setting/EICAS label
What is TCAS?
Traffic collision and avoidance system
What does TCAS do?
Interrogate operating Mode A, C & S transponders of other aircraft to calculate its flight path and coordinate optimal avoidance manoeuvres
What happens if an aircraft does not have an operating Transponder?
They are invisible to TCAS
How is TCAS Controlled?
MCDU and the MFD & CCD
What is the normal TCAS mode of operation?
TA/RA
What are the TCAS Altitude Range Modes?
NORMAL
ABOVE
BELOW
EXPANDED
What targets are shown in TCAS NORMAL Mode?
Shows Targets within 2700ft above or below
