Thrust Management System & Autothrottle Flashcards
What components make up the Thrust Management System?
AUTOTHROTTLE
Thrust Rating System (TRS)
Thrust Lever Angle (TLA) Trim
What is the purpose of the thrust Management System?
Controls aircraft speed and thrust, helping to reduce fuel consumption and increase engine service life by limiting thrust, speed and temperature according to the phase of flight
How many Autothrottle modes are there and what are they?
TO - Take off
HOLD - Hold
SPD T - Speed on Thrust
SPD E - Speed on Elevator
GA - Go Around
RETD - Retard
LIM - Limited Thrust
OVRD - Override
When happens to the Autothrottle if an engine fails?
Autothrottle deactivates the respective thrust lever ONLY
What does the Autothrottle do?
Moves the thrust levers to maintain the desired airspeed or set the correct engine thrust according to the relevant mode
When does the Autothrottle engage ON GROUND?
Autothrottle Button Pressed
NO FAILURE
BOTH Thrust Levers advanced beyond 50°
When does the Autothrottle engage IN FLIGHT?
Autothrottle Button Pressed
NO FAILURE
Airplane at or above 400ft AGL
For the Autothrottle to remain engaged the thrust levers must:
Not be misaligned more than 8° (HALF a Thrust Lever Head)
When does the Autothrottle normally disengage? (Manually & Automatically)
Manually:
Disconnect Button pressed on the Thrust Levers
Autothrottle Butto Pressed
OR
Automatically:
After Touchdown
Reverse Thrust Operation (RTO)
Thrust Levers beyond the TO/GA position
What Annunciations are seen/heard when the Autothrottle disengages in a normal situation?
AUTOTHROTTLE Voice
AT FMA Annuncation Flashes GREEN for 5 seconds
When is the Autothrottle Disengaged in a non normal situation?
Thrust Levers (TLA) misaligned more than 8°
Autothrottle Failure
What Annunciations are seen/heard when the Autothrottle disengages in a non-normal situation?
AUTOTHROTTLE Voice
AT FMA Annuncation Flashes RED
EICAS Message AT FAIL
What Protection is there for the Autothrottle?
Low Speed Protection
What is SPD T Mode & When is it used?
System controls the Selected Airspeed by adjusting the engine thrust
Used when the Flight Director Mode is turned OFF
What is the purpose of the Autothrottle HOLD Mode and what does it do?
Prevents undesired thrust lever movement during the take off phase by ensuring that thrust lever movements are not commanded up to 400ft AGL
When is Autothrottle HOLD mode engaged?
At 60kts + during the Take off Roll
When is Autothrottle HOLD mode engaged until?
400ft AGL
When is GO Around Autothrottle Mode used?
When the Thrust Levers are advanced to TO/GA Position
When is Autothrottle RTD Mode ARMED?
RAD ALT 150ft AGL & VALID
Slats/Flaps 5 or FULL & Gear Down
Autothrottle Engaged
When is Autothrottle RTD mode Engaged?
At or below 30ft
What does the Autothrottle RTD mode do?
Reduce the Thrust levers to idle during Flare on Landing
When is LIM displayed on the FMA?
When the Autothrottle Authority is NOT sufficient to achieve or maintain the selected airspeed
How can you override the Autothrottle without disengaging it and what will be displayed?
Move the thrust levers
GREEN OVRD will display on the FMA
When Thrust Levers are released, Autothrottle controls the Thrust Levers
When is Autothrottle TO mode engaged?
When the Thrust Levers are advanced 50°+
