10,000ft AGL or 10 mins after takeoff, whichever occurs first
What happens during the Wing Anti-Ice System Test?
Slat Anti-Ice Valves are OPENED
A-I WING VLV OPEN EICAS Message
How long does the Wing Anti-Ice System Test Last?
60 seconds (Max)
What EICAS Message will be displayed if a failure occurs during the Wing Anti-Ice System Test?
A-I WING FAIL
How many windscreen wipers are there and how are they controlled?
2, controlled via dedicated knobs on the overhead panel
For what 2 purposes are the Windshields heated?
Anti-Icing & De-Fogging
How many Electrical Sources are required to fully & normally operate the Windshield Heating System?
At least 2 AC Electrical Sources
How is the Windshield Heating System Normally Operated?
Automatically
Windshield Heating Buttons 1 & 2 on the Overhead Panel remain Pushed IN allowing the system to automatically control the windshield temperature
If only 1 AC Electrical Source is available in Flight, which Windshield is heated?
Left Windshield
What will happen if you only have 1 AC Electrical Source and the Left Windshield System has failed?
Right Windshield Heating becomes available
What is an ADSP and how many are there?
Air Data Smart Probe
x 4
What comprises the ADSP/TAT Heating System?
4 x ADSP
2 X TAT
Where are the ADSP & TAT Probes Located?
On the Aircraft Nose
What are the features of the ADSP/TAT Probes?
Fully Automatic
Each with a dedicated heater
When are the ADSPs heated?
Whenever an engine is running
OR
IN FLIGHT
When are the TATs heated?
When OAT below 10°C with engines running
OR
Airspeed above 50kts
OR
IN FLIGHT
When is TAT Probe heating disabled?
Airspeed below 45kts
When batteries are the only electrical source, which ADSP will be heated?
ADSP 3
What is the normal position for the ADSP Heater Button?
Pushed OUT
How can the ADSP System Logic be overridden?
Manually, by pushing IN the ADSP Heater Button
What happens when the ADSP Heater Button is pushed IN?
Manual Override of the System Logic, allowing for heating of the ADSPs on GROUND
What happens to the Engine Anti-Ice Valve if Electrical Power is lost?
Fail Safe Open
Which part of the wings are heated/can be de-iced?
Outboard Leading Edges (2,3,4)
How are the Wing Leading Edges Heated?
Via Bleed Air from the Respective Engine
Can the APU Supply bleed air for Anti-icing?
No
How many Ice Detectors are there?
2, located on the Left & Right side of the nose
What would happen to the Wing Anti-Ice System if an Engine Fire Handle is Pulled?
Anti-Ice Protection would be lost, as pulling the Fire Handle closes the Crossbleed Shutoff Valve
When are the Wing & Engine Anti-ice Valves commanded open?
If an Icing Condition is detected IN FLIGHT
What happens if an icing Condition is detected IN FLIGHT?
The Ice Detectors command the wing and engine anti-ice valves OPEN
Remain Activated for 2 minutes after the icing condition is no longer detected
How long do the wing and Engine Anti-Ice Valves stay Open after an Icing Condition is detected IN FLIGHT?
Until 2 minutes after the icing condition is no longer detected
What happens if 1 Ice Detector fails?
Nothing, system operates automatically/normally, but redundancy is lost
What happens if both Ice Detectors fail?
Anti-Ice System must be operated manually
What must be done before taking off in Icing Conditions?
The FADEC must be configured via the MCDU
Ice is detected. With ENG selected on the T/O data set page, and AUTO selected on the Mode Selector, when will the WING Anti-Ice System come on?
At the end of the takeoff phase - 1700ft AGL or 2 minutes after takeoff, whichever occurs first
With ENG selected on the T/O data set page, and AUTO selected on the Mode Selector, when will the Engine Anti-Ice come on?
The Engine Anti-Ice Valve will be OPENED after Engine Start
When will the Engine & Wing Anti-Ice Valves Open?
If Ice is detected
What happens when a Bleed Source fails in the Wing Anti-Ice System?
The System Automatically opens the Crossbleed Valve and uses the opposite bleed for both wings.
Operation of Anti-Ice Valves during takeoff affects what?
Engine Performance
What is the purpose of the REF A/I Modes set on the MCDU?
They inhibit the Anti-Ice System Logic during takeoff until 1700ft AGL or 2 mins after takeoff, whichever occurs first
What does the Engine and Wing Anti-Ice System use as a heat source?
Bleed Air from the Engines
What is meant by the undetected envelope Anti-Ice logic?
During specific conditions the Wing Anti-Ice System will be activated regardless of Icing conditions being present
ICE CONDITION EICAS Message will not display
Even though not in icing conditions, when will the Wing Anti-Ice System activate?
When for 2 minutes all of the following occur:
IN FLIGHT
Altitude BELOW 22,000ft
Combination of Air Temp, Alt & Speed Indicators
Airspeed between 150kts - 320kts
VS between -200ft/min and +200ft/min
How are Engine Cowls heated?
With Air from the Low Stage Bleed of the respective Engine
How many Engine Anti-Icing Systems are there?
2 - each Engine has an Independent Anti-ice System
What happens when the Ice Protection Mode Knob is ON
The System is activated regardless of Icing Conditions
What does a WHITE Flow Line Indicate on the MFD Synoptic Page?
The flow line is not pressurised
What does an AMBER Flow Line Indicate on the MFD Synoptic Page?
The flow line is overheated
What does an AMBER/WHITE Dashed Flow Line Indicate on the MFD Synoptic Page?
