Electrics Flashcards
What are the components of the AC Electrical System?
2 x IDGs
1 x APU
1 x RAT
1 x Static Inverter
1 x AC External Power Outlet (for GPU)
What is the main source of Electrical power?
The AC System
What is the purpose of the Electrical System?
To distribute both AC & DC power to the aircrafts systems
What is an IDG?
Integrated Drive Generator
What is the output of the IDGs?
40kVA, 115 VAC 400Hz, 3 Phase
How many IDGs are there?
2 - 1 per engine
What is the main AC Power Source when the engines are running?
IDG
How are the IDGs monitored and controlled?
By a dedicated GCU (Generator Control Unit)
Can an IDG be reconnected in flight?
No, disconnection is mechanical
When will the EICAS Message IDG 1(2) OIL display?
Oil Temp reaches 168°C +/- 5°C
Oil Pressure drops below 140psi +/- 25psi
What is the purpose of the Static Inverter?
Converts DC to AC Power
- 28V DC (from the batteries) to 115 VAC power
When is the Static Inverter used?
Used to supply the AC STANDBY BUS when an AC power source is not available
What is the RAT?
RAM Air Turbine, installed in the nose of the aircraft
What is the power output of the RAT?
15kVA 115V AC 400Hz, 3 Phase
What is the purpose of the RAT?
Converts kinetic energy of airflow across the turbine into AC power in the event of an electrical emergency
When is the RAT automatically deployed?
When no other AC Power source is powering the AC Buses
After how long does the RAT supply power to the AC ESS BUS?
8 seconds
What is used as backup power to the AC ESS BUS during the 8 seconds before the RAT takes over?
Batteries - which are used to power the DC ESS BUS & AC STANDBY BUS
Can the RAT be restowed once normal power is established?
No
What is the altitude restriction for the RAT?
N/A - There isn’t one
