A

Sitting times were highest in those finishing education after 20 years of age
- Those with degrees have more sedentary lifestyles compared to those who work before gaining higher education
- In a warmer climate, people are more likely to be out and moving compared to the colder countries
- Those with postschool education had higher sitting times compared with those with high school or less education

What is the main contributor to increased sitting time in high-income countries?

- On none work day TV was the main contributor to sitting time
- People that sit a lot at work were shown to sit more in their leisure time
- Interventions need to be made in order to prevent people spending a lot of time sitting (stand up desks)

What were the results from the study by Health Survey England?

A
  • 970 men and 1145 women, aged 16 years and over provided ≥4 days of ActiGraph data with ≥10hrs of wear
    • Sedentary behaviour defined as <200 counts/min - cut-point, lower than other research studies = higher sedentary time
    • Sedentary times were higher in men (595 mins/day) than women (584 mins/day)
    • As people increase in age, so does their sedentary time - 75+ have the highest sedentary times

How did Covid-19 increase sedentary time?

A
  • Databases searched between November 2019 and October 2020
    • Changes in physical activity reported in 64 studies, majority reported decreases in physical activity and increases in sedentary behaviours
    • Children’s sedentary time increased by 160±143 mins/day, adults (18-65 yrs) by 127±42 mins/day
    • Walking decreased & Sitting increased
