What is the Bruce Protocol?
Increasing Speed and difficulty of treadmill
What is O2 pulse?
amount of oxygen per heart beat, VO2/HR which estimates stroke volume
How can you test oxygen uptake?
different ways
to test through exercise, continuous
(ramp) or increase at time
intervals
What is the lactate response in active groups?
Shifts to the right, takes longer to reach lactate threshold
What are some indirect tests of fitness?
- Beep test
- PWC150/170 (power output to hit 150 HR and 170, as it goes up it implies you are fitter)
What is endurance?
the ability to use a high proportion of your VO2 max, which is achieved by exercising at high VO2 without producing much lactate
What is a better predictor of endurance than VO2 max?
cytochrome oxidase (ability of muscle to use O2/oxidative capacity)
What is associated with a higher lactate threshold?
- longer time to fatigue
- lower the glycogen used (glycogen use as fuel causes fatigue)
