W3 Pharmaceutical Chemistry of cardiovascular system drugs ll Flashcards
1
Q
General approaches to anticoagulant therapy:
What are the 2 steps in the coagulation cascade?
A
1.Dissolving of an existing clot: activation of
plasminogen with the thrombolytic agents, which degrades insoluble fibrin
2.Prevention of thrombus formation or extension: inhibition of factor activation higher in the cascade with heparin and other oral anticoagulants
2
Q
Antiplatelet Drugs: COX-1 Inhibitors
Thromboxane A2 (TXA2):
What is its function?
A
Potent vasoconstrictor and inducer of platelet aggregation. Produced by adherent platelets degranulation.
Induces platelet aggregation- forming a clot
3
Q
Aspirin
pKa= 3.5
A
Unionised in the stomach (pH=1.5-3.5), rapidly absorbed
