Facilitating branch = use emotions to facilitate thought , solve problems, decisions, memory aid - use of emotional info
Strategic:
understanding branch = ability to recognise relationships between emotions and events and between emotions themselves
managing branch: most complex - emotion regulation, engaging in effective and adaptive regulation of emotions

EI is linked to the dev of amygdala - one of last parts of the Brian to develop

- self awareness - recognition
- self regulation - regulation
= personal competencies - social awareness - recognition
- social skills/management - regulation
= social competencies
Is intelligence inherited?
research suggests that the higher level of genetic similarity and environment you have withs someone = a similar performance on intelligence tests
Issues with heritability of intelligence?
- representativeness of studies
- understanding genetic influence - more complex than one single gene
- Assortative mating and impact - we tend to mate with people who are similar to us
How does the environment influence IQ?
Neisser et al identified 4 main areas: - bio environment e.g. nutrition - family school/education - culture
