W2 D2 - ECG theory: Sinus rhythms Flashcards
Explain the waves in correlation with the electrical activity in the heart
P wave
SA node /atria contracting
QRS segment
Ventricle contraction / depolarization
T wave
Ventricles rest/repolarization
How do you classify a sinus arrhythmia?
What do you call the rhythm when slow or fast?
Irregular rhythm
gradual lengthening and shortening of R-R
variation is more than 0.12 sec./3 boxes, shortest R-R compared to longest R-R
still sinus arrhythmia, do not call brady or tachy
How does breathing affect HR and rhythms?
Inspiration - increase HR
Expiration - decreases HR, dont need to compensate for decrease in preload
via baroreceptors and vagus nerve
How do you tell the difference between sinoatrial block and sinus arrest?
Sinoatrial block - one exact R-R interval missing
* impulse blocked after SA node, unable to travel to AV
Sinus arrest - NOT an exact interval
* no impulse from the SA node: no activity
What are treatments for bradycardia or sinus arrests in order?
- atropine
- dopamine/epinephrine
- trancutaneous pacing
