A
Promotes platelet clumping during primary hemostasis

Diagnosis of von Willebrand’s Disease
A
-BMBT (greater than 4 minutes)
-Positive ELISA
-DNA confirmation of gene defect
-Low level of vWF in plasma

Treatment of von Willebrand’s Disease
A
- Manage bleeding episodes with plasma or cryoprecipitate
- Desmopressin acetate can be used to control bleeding during surgery
(lasts 2 hours and increases factor VIII)
