What is Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMTP)
Platelets coated with antibodies causing the immune system to destroy them in the spleen, bone marrow or liver.
Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia is 2x more likely in females. What are the clinical signs?
Bloody stool or vomit
Epistaxis (nosebleed)
Petechiae
Ecchymosis
Weakness and Lethargy
Diagnosis of Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMTP)
-R/O other causes of thrombocytopenia
-Bone Marrow Exam
What Steroid is sometimes used in treatment of IMTP?
Prednisone
What Chemotherapy Drug is sometimes used in treatment of IMTP?
Vincristine
What type of blood transfusion is used in treatment of IMTP?
Platelet-rich blood transfusion
Why is a GI protectant given as part of treatment for IMHA and IMTP
