Volumes Of Production / Flashcards
One off production and prototypes
Bespoke items that are designed for, or commissioned by, individual clients are classed as one off products. They might be made to perform a specific task and cannot be bought off the shelf.
E.g. Wedding dresses, wedding cakes, pieces of art.
Batch production
This method of production is used when a number of certain identical products are required. They will all have been produced together.
E.g. Surfboards, some furniture, clothing and food items.
Mass production
Mass-produced products tend to be items that are in constant use and where the design does not change significantly.
E.g. Drinks and food containers, electronic products such as mobile phones.
Continuous production
Tend to be made to create stock or standard material forms before final processing or assembling elsewhere.
