Q

Fossil fuels

A

Most forms of electricity production involve rotating a turbine which turns a generator. Fossil fuels are burned to create heat which in turn superheat water. The resulting steam is used to rotate turbines which are linked to a generator to provide us with a supply of electricity.

Q

Renewable energy

A

In the case of wind, water and hydroelectric energy production, the energy harnessed from the wind, waves or falling water is converted into mechanical energy which directly rotates the turbine. A generator then converts the mechanical energy from the turbine in to electrical energy.
