The image is transferred on to the flat printing plate and then attached to the roll.

Water is used to carry the ink to the roll by suspending it in the water

Once the ink is on the plate, the plate cyclinder continues to rotate and ‘presses the inked image’ on to the rubber blanket cylinder, to form a mirrored image.

A
A sheet of paper is transported through the machine to the impression cylinder, where it is passed around it and is pushed hard up against the rubber blanket cylinder, which presses the image on to the sheet of paper.

A
This will print one colour on to the paper. The paper passes through one unit to the next.
