What are Vocal Nodules
Vocal nodules are small non cancerous bilateral swellings found on the outer layer of the vocal cords. They can cause your voice to sound raspy, breathy, or hoarse. Your voice may crack or cut in and out as the bumps prevent your vocal cords from vibrating normally.
What can cause Vocal Nodules
Vocal Nodules are caused by trauma to the vocal fold musoca as a result of excessive levels of phonation - the vocal folds adduct with too much force banging together
What is the impact on voice quality with Vocal Nodules
The voice can sound rough and breathy - there may be voiceless segments - low pitch - reduced pitch range
The voice will also deteriorate with use
What are some of the treatment options with Vocal Nodules
If the nodules are soft the client can have voice therapy
If the nodules are hard they may need to be surgically removed
