What are the Characteristics of a ‘Normal Voice’

A

A ‘Normal’ voice is hard to define because it depends on the vocal fold and the task / the load it is given. However, a normal voice will have:

  • The vocal tract completely closed for a part of the cycle
  • Consistent Clarity e.g. not ++ rough/ breathy
  • Audible - able to change volume
  • Flexible pitch, loudness and quality
  • Comfortable
  • Age and gender appropriate
