Vocabulary Flashcards
precise/precision
a precise measurement will be the result of using the correct piece of equipment with appropriate resolution or smallest division (e.g. mm not cm)
very little spread about the mean value
valid
a fair test with variables that you can control so that they do not change your experiment
accurate
reliable and precise measurements can produce results very close to the value
if close to the true value
you can only hope it is accurate
you repeat (reliability), make it a fair test, calculate an average
fair test
only the independent variable has been allowed to affect the dependent variable
continuos variable
values (quantity) that can be given a magnitude (size) either by counting or by measurement
CHECK
control variable
the variable that you keep the same
independent variable
the variable that you measure (x-axis)
dependent variable
the variable that you measure as a result of changing the independent variable (y-axis)
