Vocab - Vector Graphics (Strand 4) Flashcards
Vector Graphics
are points, lines, curves and shapes that are based on mathematical formulas. Is resolution-independent, when scaling there is no loss of quality.
Vector Graphics Advantages
Infinite Resolution, Scalable, Small files, Easy to manipulate, Can be animated
Vector Graphics disadvantages
Non-Photorealistic, Can vary depending on the program used, files are not universal, Les complex images that may effect use of color
Vector Graphics Uses
Logos, Website graphics/assets, Animation, Digital Illustrations, Printable: like flyers and banners, 3D looking objects, Video game characters and assets
Web Resolution
72 dpi
Print Resolution
300 dpi
Vector File Formats
AI, EPS, SVG, PDF
GIF, PNG, TIFF, BMP
Image file formats that support transparency
Bezier Curve
Are curved lines (splines) defined by mathematical formulas. The two endpoints of the curve are called anchor points. The other points, which define the shape of the curve, are called handles or nodes. Attached to each handle are two control points.By moving the handles themselves, or the control points, you can modify the shape of the curve.
Path
made up of a series of points called “anchor points” and line segments between these points
Anchor Point
Found at the end of paths, gives control over the path’s direction and curvature.
Directional Handles
Control Points positioned on an anchor point, which are used to control/modify the shape of a curve.
Stroke
The outline of a path using color
Opacity
The attribute that specifies thetransparencyof an object or of a group of objects
Gradient
The gradual blending of two or more colors into each other
