THUMBNAIL SKETCHES
Quick, abbreviated drawings. Usually, they are done very rapidly and with no corrections.
AUDIENCE
Planning step where you consider who will be viewing your graphic art design.
PURPOSE
Planning step where you consider the reason for creating your graphic art design.
BALANCE
Is the equal distribution of visual weight.
SYMMETRICAL
The design is the same or similar on both sides of an axis.
ASYMMETRICAL
The design is different on either side of an axis, but the weight is still evenly distributed.
CONTRAST
Is the difference between two elements. Like; color, texture, detail, shape.
EMPHASIS
Is a way of using elements to stress a certain area in a design.
MOVEMENT
Is a technique used which gives the illusion or suggestion of movement
UNITY
Is how well all the visual elements work together in a design.
LINE
Is a mark that connects two or more points.
SHAPE
Is any two-dimensional area with a recognizable boundary. This includes circles, squares, triangles, and so on. Two distinct categories: geometric and organic.
TEXTURE
Is the physical quality of a surface. Texture adds depth and tactility to otherwise flat images.
COLOR
Is a design element that conveys emotion, mood, personal and cultural messages, symbolism, and the importance in relationship to a part of a design.
VALUE
Is the use of light and dark, shade and highlight.
SPACE
It refers to the area that a shape or form occupies. Either positive (filled) or negative (empty) space.
FORM
Is a shape that appears to be three dimensional, having weight, width and depth.
PROPORTION
Is the relationship between the sizes of different parts in a design.
SCALE
Is the size of an object compared to the rest of the surroundings in a design.
RULE OF THIRDS
The work area is divided into a 3x3 grid. The focal point of the image is placed on or near one of the grid lines, creating visual balance with the rest of the space.
RGB
Red, Green, Blue - color model used to display color on computer monitors, televisions, and similar devices
CMYK
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black - the four ink colors used to create most process color printing
Indexed Color
Is a technique to manage digital images’ colors in a limited fashion, in order to save computer memory and file storage. The color is not directly stored in the image, but in a color lookup table or palette.
