Misdemeanor
A minor wrong doing
What is a felony
The most serious category of crime.
Such as a murder, robbery, treason
Bail
The temporary release of an accused person awaiting trial.
What’s a prosecutor
A person, especially a public official, who institutes legal proceeding against someone
What’s a plaintiff
A person who brings a case against another In a court of law.
What’s a grand jury
A jury, normally of 23 jurors selected to examine the validity of an accusation before trial
What’s an indictment
A formal charge or accusation of a serious crime
What’s a jury
A body of people, typically 12, sworn to give a verdict in a legal case on the basis of evidence submitted to them in court.
What’s a verdict
A decision on a disputed issue in a criminal case or an inquest
What’s a sentence
The punishment assigned to a defendant found guilty by a court, or fixed by law for a particular offense
What’s a trial court
A court of law where cases are tried in the first place, as opposed to an appeals court
What’s an appellate court
Any court of law that is empowered to hear an appeal of a trial court or other lower tribunal.
What’s a majority opinion
A judicial opinion agreed to by more than half of the members of a court
What’s a dissenting opinion
An opinion in a legal case written by one or more judges expressing disagreement with the majority opinion of the court which gives rise to its judgement
