Bill of Rights
the first ten amendments to the US Constitution, ratified in 1791 and guaranteeing such rights as the freedoms of speech, assembly, and worship.
Federal system/ federalism
A system of government in which power is divided between a central authority and constituent political units. b. Advocacy of such a system of government. 2. Federalism The doctrine of the Federalist Party.
Impeach
When the president does something illegal and it is proven then he can be kicked out of office
Veto
a constitutional right to reject a decision or proposal made by a law-making body.
Constitutional
of or relating to an established set of principles governing a state.
Judicial review
review by the US Supreme Court of the constitutional validity of a legislative act.
Elastic Clause
elastic clause. noun. 1. a statement in the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 8) granting Congress the power to pass all laws necessary and proper for carrying out the enumerated list of powers.
Delegated powers
The delegated powers are a list of items found in Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution that set forth the authoritative capacity of Congress. In summary, Congress may exercise the powers that the Constitution grants it.
Concurrent powers
Concurrent powers are powers in nations with a federal system of government that are shared by both the federal government and each constituent political unit (such as a state or province).
reserved powers
In comparative federalism and comparative constitutionalism reserved powers or residual powers are those powers which are not “enumerated” (written down, assigned).
