Q

Swine bacillus anthracis manifest as

A

Localized pharyngeal infection with regional lymphadenitis, ulcerative enteritis and mesenteric lymphadenitis may occur

17
Q

Human symptoms of anthracis

A

Infection through the skin produces Malignant carbuncles or pustules
Through inhalation produces pulmonary edema, haemorrhagic pneumonia and meningitis

18
Q

Anthrax can be demonstrated by what stains

A

McFadyean or Giemsa or Wright stain

19
Q

Anthrax can be demonstrated by what stains

A

McFadyean or Giemsa or Wright stain

20
Q

McFadyean reaction gives

A

Bluish rod surrouded by pink and purple capsule💦

21
Q

McFadyean reaction

A

Bluish rod surrouded by purplish pink capsule
The organisms may appear singly or in pairs or long chains with unstained central areas representing spores

23
Q

Steps involved in culturing anthracis

A
  1. Homogenize tissue using physiological saline or broth as a diluent
  2. Inoculate blood agar from suspension, blood, swaps and biopsies
    3.inoculate aerobically at 37°C For 24 hours
  3. Large flat and rough colonies with irregular edges which are usually non hemolytic
  4. Some areas called medusa head type or judges wig type colonies
On nutrient agar colonies are dull, opaque and grayish white with irregular borders 🌚💀
