Q
Commonality
A
- Both “Aunt Julia” and “Assisi” by Norman MacCaig have vivid characters.
- In “Aunt Julia”, the character of the speakers aunt is very vividly described being powerful and dynamic – this vivid description of the aunt adds emphasis to theme of loss at the end of the poem – both the personal loss for the speaker and the cultural loss she represents.
- In “Assisi”, the character of the beggar is vividly described as being very weak and in great pain, this emphasises our feelings of sympathy and makes us feel even worse about the negligence of the beggar for the church – this emphasises the theme of the hypocrisy of the church.
