VISUAL PATHWAY PARTS Flashcards
Fibers of Optic nerve:
pupillary / afferent pupillomotor fibers
Visual fibers
Efferent / retino-motor fibers
intercurrent / commissural / internuncial fibers
carries impulse from pupil to the brain
concerned w/ pupillary light reflex
pupillary / afferent pupillomotor optic nerve fibers
continuation of ganglionic fibers of retina up to LGB
concerned with visual sensation
Visual fibers of optic nerve
carry impulses from brain to retina
EFFERENT / retino-motor fibers of optic nerve
links one retina to another:
intercurrent / commissural / internuncial
-fibers of optic nerve
enveloped by pia mater only
Optic chiasma
posterior continuation of optic chiasma up to LGB
Optic Tract
Lesion in the Optic Tract:
Incongruous homonymous hemianopsia
when pupil does not react when a narrow pencil of light is thrown on the blind half of retina
but react on seeing portion
Wernicke’s hemianopic pupil
serves as end station for some visual fibers / area where fibers terminate
LATERAL GENICULATE BODY
LGB is regarded as?
Subcortical visual center of brain
serves as relay station between retina and cortex
LGB fibers from the temporal side terminate in layers:
2, 3 , 5
LGB fibers the nasal side terminate in layers:
1, 4 ,6
Lesion in the LGB:
Congruous Homonymous hemianopsia
location on retina of LGB lateral fibers:
inferior quadrant of both Retina
affects the superior quadrant of visual field
