Ciliary body Flashcards
Parts of ciliary body:
Uveal portion
Epithelial portion
part of ciliary body that is adjacent to scelra
Uveal portion
Part of ciliary body that is adjacent to posterior aqueous chamber
Epithelial portion
Parts of epithelial portion of Ciliary body
Pars plana or Orbicularis ciliaris
Pars plicata or Corona Ciliaris
least vascular structure (site of surgical entry)
extending from ora serrata
Pars plana or Orbicularis ciliaris
contains the ciliary process
most vascular structure
Pars plicata or Corona ciliaris
most prominent portion of the uvea
when contracts, it draws the ciliary process & choroid forward relaxing the zonule of zinn
Ciliary MUSCLE
Types of smooth muscle fibers in ciliary muscles:
Longitudinal or Brucke’s muscles
Radial muscle fibers
Circular muscle fibers or Mueller’s muscles
outermost layer of ciliary muscles
originate from scleral spur
forms the main mass/bulk of the ciliary body
Longitudinal fibers / Brucke’s muscle
originate from anterior portion of Brucke’s muscles
inserted into the root of the iris close to the dilator pupillae
Radial muscle fibers
innermost layer lying parallel to lens equator
site of attachment of zonular fibers
Circular muscle fibers or Mueller’s muscle
