What are the key things to look for in advertising?
Target audience, desired message, persuasive language, and image layout
What role do objects/shapes play in advertising?
shapes and objects can be associated with certain emotions and connotations. An object can be used as a shortcut in a message but relies on the understanding of the symbol by the audience
How does the size of objects impact advertisements and visual media?
Important objects are usually large and located in the foreground while small objects that can be placed in the background are considered less important.
How does colour contribute to an image’s message?
Different colours create different moods for the viewer. For example: red is passion, white is purity, and green is calmness
What role does the positioning of text and other elements have in visual media?
Objects placed in the middle of the composition are given a higher emphasis and importance than ones positioned off to the sides
What can angles contribute to an image?
Low angles create a feeling of power and status while low angles do the opposite
How are settings used in visual media?
Settings have symbolic significance and influence our response to a photograph. Non-descript settings can give more focus on the main subject of the image
What does body language do for an image’s mood
posture, gesture and facial expression all tell about the way that the viewer is meant to feel
What does different clothing represent
Different clothing can signify personality, status, age, or culture
