The utopian vision of “nowhere” was brought by Morris.
It represents a land which has withered away according to Marxist prophecy, where all distinction between town and country have disappeared.
Wind & water - sole sources of power
Waterway & road - sole means of transport
It resembles a society without money or poverty, crime or punishment, prison or parliament
He refused to come to terms with the industrial method.

He established a respectable precedent for adopting a classical, mannered format in town
He wrote: “Sketches for Cottages and other Buildings” (1878). This was a highly influential book which included illustrated designes for workers houses of various sizes and also the essential public building typologies.
Explain the significance of Ebenezer Howard.
He presented the Garden City movement in 1898 (this was linked with the Arts and Crafts movement)
The garden city moment combined with rural colonisation and decentralised government.
It advocated that a city should derive its revenue from a balanced combination of industry and agriculture.
