The “National Pensions Institute”. Helsinki (1956) established him as one of the master architects of the post-war period.
Who was Asplund?
He influenced Aalto.
His “Stockholm Public Library” Sweden. 1928. - shows a stripped back language of simplicity; it is an important precursor to Modernism in Sweden.
What was National Romanticism?
It forms a historic root of what Frampton more recently termed ‘Critical Regionalism’
It was a response to the desire to create architecture that conveyed character, climate, and culture of a particular place.
