Vision Flashcards
Hvilket system bruger rods?
the scotopic, and works in dim light
What system does the cones use?
photopic
Where does most of the axons in the optic nerves terminate?
In the lateral geniculate nucleus (Breedove 300)
Where do some of the axons from the optic tract end?
In the superior colliculus (Breedlove 300)
What is primary visual cortex called
Striate cortex (Breedlove 300)
What do you call the mapping of the visual fiels?
Retinotopic mapping (Breedlove 302)
What kind of cells and receptors are in the retina?
Rods, cones, bipolar cells, ganglioncells, horisontal cells and amacrine cells
Hvad sker der med rods og cones når de bliver ramt af en foton?
De hyperpolariserer og udskiller mindre glutamate.
What happens to an on-center bipolar cell, when it recieves less glutamate?
It is ixcited, because glutamate is an inhibitor
What happens to an on-center-cell when the rod or cone that synapses on it recieves light?
It gets exchited, because the receptor gets polarized –> sends less glutamate –> stops inhibiting the bipolar cell
Hvad betyder parvocellular
væv, der består af små celler (Breed, p. 305)
What do you call a tissue consisting of big cells?
Magnocellular (Breed 305)
How many layers are in the lateral geniculate gyrus?
6
