Viruses - Structure and Replication Flashcards
1
Q
What are the structures in viruses?
A
Cell wall, cytoplasm, chromosomal DNA, slime capsule, ribosomes, pili, plasmid, flagellum
2
Q
What is the difference between the prokaryotic and the eukaryotic ribosomes?
A
Prokaryotic cells have 70s ribosomes as they are smaller
3
Q
What do viruses need to replicate?
A
A host cell
4
Q
What does a virus do to the host cell so it can replicate?
A
Injects their nucleic acid
5
Q
How does the host cells division mean the virus has divided too?
A
The divided host cell contains the genetic information of the virus’ nucleic acid, which makes both daughter cells contain a copy of the virus
