Cell Cycle Flashcards
What are the 3 main parts of the cell cycle?
Interphase, Nuclear division, Cell division
What 3 parts is interphase split into?
G1, S phase, G2
What happens in G1?
RNA, enzymes and proteins are made for cell growth
What happens in S phase?
DNA is made or replicated
What happens in G2?
Synthesised DNA is checked and errors are repaired
What is nuclear division?
The division of only stuff in the nucleus, either mitosis or meiosis (in gametes)
What is cell division?
The division of everything in the cell, involving the process of cytokinesis
What is cytokinesis?
The pinching of the cell
What environmental factors affect the cell cycle?
Increased glucose, oxygen, temperature, phosphate, nucleotides
How does increased glucose affect the cell cycle?
Increases respiration
How does increased oxygen affect the cell cycle?
Increases respiration
How does increased temperature affect the cell cycle?
Increases enzyme activity
How does increased phosphate affect the cell cycle?
Increases ATP, DNA, RNA
How does increased nucleotides affect the cell cycle?
Increases DNA synthesis
What is the structure of a chromosome before S phase?
Contains a paternal and maternal chromosome in homologous pairs
