Q

What are the key features of viruses?

A
  1. OBLIGATORY intracellular parasites
  2. DNA or RNA
  3. no ribosomes, no ATP (they steal hosts)

Q

What is the different between an enveloped virus and a naked virus? Which one is more dangerous in terms of pathogens?

A

The enveloped viruses have their nucleic-acid surrounded by a lipid coating layer. The naked viruses just have their nucleic acid and the capsid.
-Naked viruses are harder to kill.

Q

Difference between antigentic shift and drift? Which is more concerning in pathology?

A
  1. Shift > Complete new reassortment of Genome>outbreaks (concerning)
  2. Drift > small changes>mutations

Q

What are prions and why do they result in the breakdown of the brain matter?

A
