Vines Flashcards

1
Q

Cross fertilisation vs. hybrid

What’s the difference?

A

Crossing always makes a new variety.
Crossings are done between vines of same species, usually Vitis Vinifera.
Crossing between the male of vine A with the female of Vine B to produce Vine C.
Crossing is expensive, time consuming and unpredictable.

Hybrids are crosses between vines of different species. Vitis Vinifera is not a wine grape vine.
