Cross fertilisation vs. hybrid
What’s the difference?
Crossing always makes a new variety.
Crossings are done between vines of same species, usually Vitis Vinifera.
Crossing between the male of vine A with the female of Vine B to produce Vine C.
Crossing is expensive, time consuming and unpredictable.
Hybrids are crosses between vines of different species. Vitis Vinifera is not a wine grape vine.
Vine pests include:
Fungus, Phyloxera Nematodes Insects Birds Mildew Viruses Bacteria

Sharpshooters
The start of the ripening of the grapes is called?
Véraison

Failure of enough flowers to fertilise is called?

Difference between a spur and a cane?
Spurs have 2 or 3 buds
Canes have between 8 and 20
Difference between a Cordon and a Cane?
The Cordon is a permanent old wood cane with shoots growing from spurs.
A cane is there for the year only, and is Head Trained. Shoots emerge from the buds left on the cane by the grower.
