Veterinary Immunology Case Studies Flashcards
Case #1- Cyclic Neutropenia
episodes of infection when peripheral neutrophil counts fall to less than 1000/microliter. Occurs at 10-12 day intervals. Mutation in a gene causes a defect in the granulocyte colony stimulating factor signal transduction pathway. Treatment: inject recombinant G-CSF resulting in normalization of the leukocyte production cycle
Case #2- calf with pneumonia that has a lot of circulating neutrophils but few in lung tissue
genetic mutation resulting in nonfunctional leukocyte integrin preventing neutrophils from adhering to vessel wall and migrating.
Case #3- persistent cough with high RR. Red bronchial mucosa
Ciliary Dyskinesis- no movement
Case #4- Chediak-Higashi Syndrome
neutrophil lysosomes are larger than normal and abnormal in function.
