vertigo that often develops following a viral infection

A
- recurrent vertigo attacks lasting hours or days
- nausea and vomiting may be present
- horizontal nystagmus
- no hearing loss or tinnitus

A
- viral labyrinthitis
- posterior circulation stroke

what is the management of vestibular neuronitis?
A
- buccal or IM prochlorperazine
- short oral courses (3 days) of prochlorperazine or an antihistamine may be used in less severe cases
- symptoms >1 week = vestibular rehabilitation
