Rinne's and Weber's Test Flashcards
1
Q
what is rinne’s test?
A
- tuning fork is placed over the mastoid process until the sound is no longer heard
- followed by repositioning just over the external acoustic meatus
2
Q
what type of noise conduction is usually best?
A
air
3
Q
what is a positive rinne’s test?
A
air conduction > bone conduction
4
Q
what is a negative rinne’s test?
A
bone conduction > air conduction
5
Q
what can be interpreted from a positive rinne’s test?
A
normal
6
Q
what can be interpreted from a negative rinne’s test?
A
conductive deafness
7
Q
what is weber’s test?
A
- tuning fork is placed in the middle of the forehead equidistant from the patient’s ears
- patient is then asked which side is loudest
8
Q
what will be found during weber’s test if the patient has unilateral sensorineural deafness?
A
sound is localised to the unaffected side
9
Q
what will be found during weber’s test if the patient has unilateral conductive deafness?
A
sound is localised to the affected side
