Vestibular classifications Flashcards
what are the 10 classifications
- vestibular/somatosensory integration at rest
- canal function
- gaze stability
- otolith function
- impaired postural control
- oculomotor function
- cervicogenic- dizziness
- visual motion hypersensitivity
- somatosensory hypersensitvity
- head position provoked dizziness
what is the testing of vestibular/somatosensory integration at rest
sensation of motion at rest:
-positive= sensation of motion inside ones head with eyes closed and body stable
interpretation: asymmetry of information from inner ear
what is the intervention for vestibular/somatosensory integration at rest
settling: matching vestibular/somatosensory inputs
-find position of incresed stability like hooklying
-weights on body
-axial loading
what is canal function testing
head motion provoked dizziness
positive: dizziness
means: asymmetry of info from inner ear canals or brain
what is canal function intervention
- rolling: eyes closed supine to prone
- head turns/pithc eyes closed seated
- standing spinning eyes closed
- chair spins eyes closed
what is some gaze stability testing
VOR
- head impulse test: positive= eyes slip off target
- dynamic visual ctivity: gold standard.positive= loss of >3 lines of visual acuity (blurred)
- gaze stability with head turns. postiive= blurred vision during head motion
what is gaze stablityi intervention
focus on target, move head in plane of canals, progressing speed
target must be in focus
what is otolith function testing
head righting
-tilt board/rocker board
-lateral reaching
-tandem stance/tandem gait
-2x4
what is some oculomotor function testing
- saccades
- smooth pursuits
- convergence/divergence
means: possible visual impairment
screen for central dysfunction
what is ocoulmotor function intervention
- saccades all planes
- smooth persuits alll planes
- brock string
what is cervicogenic dizziness testing
- body rotation under stable head
- laser
what is cervicogenic dizziness intervention
- body rot under stable head
- laser and target training
- C/s joint mobility and miuscle retraining
- isolated c/s motion frmo oculotmotor
what is visual motion hypersensitivity testing
- VMHQ
- oculomtoor screen
- optokinetic stimulus test
what is visual motion hypersensitivity intervention
- compensation: decrease visual stimulus
- adaptation techinques
what is somatosensory hypersensitivity testing
- joint loading or increased surface area contact
- report of rocking sensation under feet
