Vessels Flashcards
Large vein on the side of the neck
External jugular vein
Artery that originates from the internal thoracic artery and emerges between the costal arch and the sternum,
Cranial epigastric artery
Artery that leaves the subclavian artery and travels ventrocaudally into the transversus thoracic muscle
Internal thoracic artery
What does the internal thoracic artery supply?
phrenic nerve, thymus, mediastinal pleurae, and dorsal intercostal spaces
What veins form the cranial vena cava at the thoracic inlet?
right and left brachiocephalic veins
What forms the brachiocephalic veins
External jugular and subclavian veins
Last branch entering the cranial vena cava
Azygos vein
Where does lymph drainage from the left thoracic limb and the left tracheal trunk go
Thoracic duct
Where does lymph drainage from the right thoracic limb and right tracheal trunk go
they form a right lymphatic duct that joins the right brachiocephalic vein
Which way does the aortic arch bend when exiting the heart?
left
Branches of the aorta that supply the heart muscle
Coronary arteries
The first branch off the aortic arch
brachiocephalic trunk
What does the brachiocephalic trunk give rise to?
Left common carotid artery, and terminates as the right common carotid artery and right subclavian artery
What is the second branch off the aortic arch?
Left subclavian artery
Branches of the right subclavian artery that arise medial the the first rib
vertebral artery, costocervical trunk, superficial cervical artery, and internal thoracic artery
What does the vertebral artery go/supply
Through the first six cervical vertebrae to the cervical muscles, cervical spinal cord, and its coverings. Contribute to the ventral spinal and basilar arteries
What does the costocervical trunk do/supply
Extends to the vertebral end of the first rib. Supplies structures of the 1-3rd intercostal spaces, muscles at the base of the neck and dorsal to the fist few thoracic vertebrae
What does the superficial cervical artery supply
base of neck and adjacent scapular region
What does the bronchoesophageal artery supply
left face of the esophagus
How many pairs of intercostal arteries
8-9
Continuation of the subclavian artery that extends from the first rib to teres major and latissimus dorsi
Axillary artery
Four branches of the axillary artery
external thoracic, lateral thoracic, subscapular, and cranial circumflex humeral
What does the external thoracic artery supply?
superficial pectorals
What does the lateral thoracic artery supply?
latissimus dorsi, deep pectoral, cutaneous trunci muscles, and thoracic mammae
What does the subscapular artery supply?
the scapula
branches of the subscapular artery
Thoracodorsal artery
Caudal circumflex humoral artery
Circumflex scapula
What does the thoracodorsal artery supply?
teres major and latissimus dorsi
What does the caudal circumflex humeral artery supply?
triceps, deltoideus, coracobrachialis, infraspinatus, and shoulder joint capsule
What does the circumflex scapular artery supply?
subscapularis and infraspinatus
What does the cranial circumflex humeral artery supply?
biceps brachii and the joint capsule of the shoulder
What is the continuation of the axillary artery?
Brachial artery
What are the branches of the brachial artery?
collateral ulnar artery, transverse cubital artery, common interosseus (largest), and median artery
What does the collateral ulnar artery supply?
triceps, ulnar nerve, and elbow
hat does the transverse cubital artery supply?
elbow and adjacent muscles
What does the brachial artery give rise to and continue as?
It gives rise to the common interosseous and continues as the median artery
What does the ulnar artery supply?
ulnar and humeral heads of the deep digital flexor and flexor carpi ulnaris
What does the deep antebrachial artery supply?
flexor carpi radialis, deep digital flexors, flexor carpi ulnaris, and the superficial digital flexors
