Q

What is the Thoracic Vertebrae?

A

It is located in the middle spine (T1-T12). Medium, heart shaped bodies that are larger than cervical vertebrae. Two costal facets on each side for rib attachment.

Q

What is the Sacrum?

A

It is located at the bottom of the spine. Connects to pelvis. 5 bones fused together to make 1 bone.

Q

What is the coccyx?

A

Located at bottom of Sacrum. It is your tailbone. Formed by the fusing of 3-5 vertebrae.

Q

What is the Lumbar vertebrae?

A

It is located at lower spine (L1-L5). Carries the most body weight. Short, blunt spinous processes, long and thin transverse process, wide articular processes to allow for large range of motion.

Q

What is the purpose of the spine shape?

A

It has a distinct and unique curve, which helps to distribute weight and pressure through the entire spine.

Q

What is the atlas and where is it located?

A

The atlas is C1. It supports the skull and allows flexion and extension (“yes”)

Q

What is the axis and where is it located?

A

It is C2. It allows the head to rotate laterally (spins on axis)

Q

What is thoracic kyphosis?

A

Q

What is Lumbar Lordosis?

A

16
Q

What is scoliosis?

A

It is a twisted spine (80% cases unknown cause).

17
Q

What is tech neck (cervical lordosis)?

A

Cervical curvature is straightened.

18
Q

What are the intervertebral discs?

A

They are discs made of cartilage and they separate each vertebrae. Damage is unfixable.

19
Q

What is the purpose of the curves and discs?

A

They absorb and distribute stresses and shock that occurs from daily activities and movement.

20
Q

What is another name for the vertebral column?

A

Spine/spinal cord

21
Q

What skeleton is the vertebral column part of?

A

The axial skeleton
