What are the two regions that the skull consists of?
The skull consists of the cranium and the facial area.
Cranium: made up of 8 flat bones fused together. Facial area: made up of 14 bones that support sense organs (eyes, nose, ears) and form attachments for head and face muscles.
Which skull bone is movable?
The only movable skull bone is the mandible (lower jaw) and the hyoid (a floating bone in your neck).
Most skull bones are bound by sutures: fibrous immovable joints.
What do cranial bones surround and protect?
Cranial bones surround and protect the brain.
What do facial bones provide?
Facial bones provide holes for air and food and attachment points for the muscles used in facial expressions.
What is the name of the jaw joint?
Temporal Mandibular Joint
