Ventricular System Flashcards
1
Q
What communicates lateral ventricles with third ventricle?
A
Each lateral ventricle communicates with third ventricle via interventricular foramen (foramen of Monro)
2
Q
Where does the cavernous sinus drain?
A
- transverse sinus via superior petrosal sinus
- internal jugular vein via inferior petrosal sinus
3
Q
What is the cause of noncommunicating hydrocephalus?
A
- obstruction of flow within ventricles
* commonly at narrow points - foramen of Monro, sylvius aqueduct
4
Q
What is a communicating hydrocephalus and its cause?
A
- excess volume or pressure of CSF ▶️ dilated ventricles (as all hydrocephalus)
- impaired CSF resorption, obstruction flow in subarachnoid space, oversecretion
5
Q
How do you identify a chronic normal pressure hydrocephalus and why is it produced?
A
- triad: dementia, apraxic (magnetic) gait, urinary incontinence
- no resorption by arachnoid villi or granulations (form of communicating)
6
Q
What finding in CSF would you expect see in case of CNS tumor?
A
- ⬆️⬆️ protein levels
- tumor cells if meningeal involvement
