Ventricular fibrillation Flashcards
1
Q
define ventricular fibrillation?
A
an irregular broad-complex tachycardia that can cause cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death
2
Q
risk factors of ventricular fibrillation ?
A
o Coronary artery disease o AF o Hypoxia o Ischaemia o Pre-excitation syndrome
3
Q
epidemiology of ventricular fibrillation?
A
MOST COMMON arrhythmia identified in cardiac arrest patients
4
Q
presenting features?
A
o Chest pain
o Fatigue
o Palpitations
previously known coronary conditions
5
Q
investigations?
A
- ECG
- Cardiac enzymes
- Electrolyte
- Drug levels and toxicology screen (cocaine)
- TFTs
- Coronary angiography
6
Q
management plan for VF?
A
- VF requires urgent defibrillation and cardioversion
* Most survivors will need an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and beta blockers
7
Q
prognosis?
A
treatment is needed 4-6 mins after VF
