Venous Drainage Flashcards
What drains the superolateral and medial surfaces of the cerebral hemispheres?
superior cerebral veins
What are the superficial/external veins of the cerebrum?
superior, middle & inferior cerebral veins
superior anastomotic veins (veins of Trolard)
inferior anastomotic veins (veins of Labbe)
What drains the lateral surfaces of the brain?
middle cerebral veins
What connects the superior middle cerebral vein with the superior sagittal sinus?
superior anastomotic veins
What connects the superior middle cerebral vein to the transverse sinus?
inferior anastomotic veins
What are the deep/internal veins of the cerebrum?
basal veins
great cerebral vein (of Galen) (unpaired)
What forms the basal veins?
anterior cerebral veins & deep middle cerebral veins
What forms the great cerebral vein (of Galen)?
right & left cerebral veins
Where are the inferior cerebral veins located?
orbital surfaces of the frontal lobes
inferior surfaces of temporal lobes
What drains into the superior sagittal sinus?
superior cerebral veins
orbital vv. (inferior cerebral vein)
What drains into the straight sinus?
great cerebral vein (of Galen)
What drains into the cavernous sinus?
middle cerebral veins
temporal vv. (inferior cerebral vein) via middle cerebral veins
What drains the medial aspects of the cerebral hemispheres?
basal veins (anterior cerebral veins)
What drains the insula?
basal veins (deep middle cerebral veins)
What does the great cerebral vein (of Galen) drain?
deep structures of cerebral hemispheres (e.g. thalamus, basal ganglia, choroid plexus)
