Origin of the Cephalic and Basilic Veins
Palmer Arch of the Hand
which side of the anterior forearm does the cephalic vein run?
Lateral in anatomical position up the entire arm and then continues between the pectoralis major and deltoid muscles (thumb side) (ulnar side)
Which side of the arm does the basilic vein run?
- Medially up the entire arm and joins with the deep axillary vein
- Passes the medial epicondyle of the humerus
- Continues up and drains into the axillary vein
Where is the median cubial vein?
In to pit of the elbow where they do venipuncture. Distal to the Bicep Brachaii Muscle (lower part is on the thumb side Cephalic side)
Where does the basilic vein terminate?
Unites with the pair brachial veins to form the axillary vein at the inferior border of the teres major muscle
What does the cephalic vein empty into?
The Axillary vein
What does the cephalic vein run with in the deltopectoral groove?
Deltoid branch of the thoracoacromial trunk
Where does the cephalic vein drain into the axillary vein?
Below the clavicle
Once the axillary vein passes the lateral border of the first rib, what is it called?
Subclavian Vein
What does the axillary vein join with the form the brachiocephalic vein?
The internal jugular vein
What do the brachiocephlic veins drain into?
Superior vena cava
