Where does the radial artery arise from?
The radial artery arises from the bifurcation of the brachial artery in the antecubital fossa.
Orientation of the radial artery
- division between the anterior and posterior compartments of the forearm, with the posterior compartment beginning just lateral to the artery.
- The artery winds laterally around the wrist, passing through the anatomical snuff box and between the heads of the first dorsal interosseous muscle. It passes anteriorly between the heads of the adductor pollicis, and
- becomes the deep palmar arch, which joins with the deep branch of the ulnar artery.
- Radial pulse in the anatomical snuff box
Which aspect of the forearm is this?
Anterior
Label the structures
Median nerve orientation in the anterior forearm
The median nerve enters the forearm by passing between the two heads of the pronator teres muscle.
In the forearm, the median nerve is positioned posterior (deep) to the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle.
Label
Where is the ulnar artery in the forearm?
The ulnar artery is positioned lateral (deep) to the flexor carpi ulnaris muscle

What emerges from the quadrangular space?
The axillary nerve and posterior circumflex humeral vessels traverse the quadrangular space.
Describe what is found in the cubital fossa and what borders it
The cubital fossa is the triangular shaped soft tissue space positioned anterior to the elbow.
- pronator teres (medial)
- brachioradialis (lateral)
- brachialis (floor)
