vasculature and nerves of posterior gluteal/ thigh Flashcards
What are the distributions of the superior (L1-3), middle (S1-S3) and inferior (post cutaneous nerve of thigh) clunial nerves
the skin of the gluteal region
What is the origin of the sciatic nerve?
Sacral plexus, L4-S3
What is the course of the sciatic nerve?
leaves pelvis through greater sciatic foramen
inferiolaterally under the cover of gluteus maximus
descends on adductor magnus
crossed by long head of biceps femoris
What is the distribution of the sciatic nerve?
all muscles in posterior compartment of thigh, leg and foot muscles
Describe the course and distribution of posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh? (S1-S3)
Greater sciatic foramen
deep to gluteus maximus
descends in posterior thigh deep to fascia lata
supplies skin of gluteal region through inferior clunial nerve, skin over posterior thigh and calf, upper medial thigh
Describe the course and distribution of superior gluteal? (L4-S1)
between gluteus medius and minimus
supplies gluteus medius/ minimus/ tensor fasciae latae
Describe the course and distribution of inferior gluteal? (L5-S2)
Greater sciatic foramen and divides
innervates gluteus maximus
Describe the course and distribution of nerve to quadratus femoris? (L4-S1)
leaves through greater sciatic foramen deep to sciatic nerve
inferior gemellus and quadratus femoris
Describe the course and distribution of pudendal nerve? (S2-S4)
descends posterior to sacrospinous ligament, enters perineum through lesser sciatic foramen
perineum
Describe the course and distribution of nerve to obturator internus? (L5-S2)
descends posterior to ischial spine, enters lesser sciatic foramen.
supplies sup gemellus and obturator internus
What is the course and distribution of the superior gluteal artery?
from internal iliac
superficial branch leaves >sciatic foramen, anastamoses with inferior gluteal and medial circumflex femoral arteries, supplies glut max
deep branch runs between ad supplies glut med and min and supplies tensor facsiae latae
What is the course and distribution of the inferior gluteal artery?
descends medially to sciatic nerve, anastamoses with sup gluteal, med/ lat circumflex femoral and 1st perforating
supplies glut max, obt int, quad fem, sup hamstrings
What is the distribution of the internal pudendal artery?
external genetalia, muscles in perineum
What is the course and distribution of the perforating arteries?
from profunda femoris artery
pierce adductor magnus to enter posterior thigh and medial intermuscular septum, supplies branches to hamstring then pierces lateral intermuscular septum to supply anterior compartment.
