posterior thigh Flashcards
What is the deep fascia of the thigh called?
fascia lata
How many inter-muscular septa does the fascia lata form and where do these attach?
3, linea aspera
What are the three compartments of the thigh?
anterior extensor, posterior flexor, medial adductor
What are the 3 hamstring muscles?
semimembranosus, semitendinosus, long head of biceps femoris
What are the attachments of semimembranosus?
ischial tuberosity
posterior medial condyle of tibia
What are the attachments of semitandinosus?
ischial tuberosity
medial surface of superior part of tibia
What are the attachments of biceps femoris?
long head- ischial tuberosity, short head- linea aspera and lateral supracondylar line of femur
lateral head of fibular, tendon split by fibial collateral ligament of knee
What is the innervation of the hamstrings?
tibial division of sciatic nerve (L5-S2)
What are the actions of the hamstrings at the hip?
extension of thigh
What is the innervation of biceps femoris short head?
common fibular division of sciatic nerve (L5-S2)
What are the actions of the hamstrings at the knee?
Flexion of leg
Which muscle from the medial compartment has a hamstring part?
Adductor Magnus
Why is the hamstring part of adductor magnus considered part of the hamstrings?
common proximal attachment (ischial tuberosity) and nerve supply (tibial branch of sciatic, L4)
Which muscles form the border of the popliteal fossa?
superolaterally- biceps femoris
superomedially- semimembranosus, more medial semitendanosus
inferolaterally/ inferomedially- lateral/ medial heads of gastrocnemius
posteriorly (roof)- skin and popliteal fascia
floor- popliteal surface of femur, posterior capsule of knee, popliteus fascia covering popliteus
What structures are found in the popliteal fossa?
termination of small saphenous vein popliteal artery and vein tibial and common fibular nerve posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh popliteal lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels fat
