Vascular plants - Angiosperms Flashcards
What structure evolved in the angiosperms that is not found in the gymnosperms?
Flowers
What is the impact of the flower and fruit production on reproductive success?
Flowers attract animals that may be carrying pollen (increased pollination), fruits allow for increased chance of embryo dispersal and survival
Why do some plants, such as grasses, have reduced flowers with no colourful petals?
They rely on wind pollination, which does not require animal attraction.
Why might it be good for plants when animals to eat fruits?
Helps plants with seed dispersal, increases germination success, and expanding the plant’s range. This symbiotic relationship benefits both the plant (by spreading its seeds) and the animal (by providing food).
